About rattanay Legal
rattanay Legal was founded in the historic Bang Rak district of Bangkok with a single intention: to provide families with honest, competent legal support at moments that are already emotionally and practically demanding. The firm takes its name from the rattanay period of Thai history — an era associated with careful stewardship, ordered civic life, and the long view.
From its earliest years, the practice focused almost entirely on inheritance and succession work. The partners at that time believed — and still believe — that specialisation in a single area produces better outcomes than a broad general practice. Clients who come to us are dealing with one of the more complex intersections of family life and Thai law. They deserve practitioners who have thought carefully about exactly these situations, not those who are encountering them for the first time.
Today the practice continues from the same address on Surasak Road, with a small team of qualified lawyers and legal coordinators who share a common approach: thorough preparation, patient communication, and complete written records of every stage of a matter.

Senior Partner
Kanya has practised succession law in Thailand for fourteen years, with a particular focus on matters involving cross-border assets and international families. She leads client consultations and case strategy.
Khun Somsak Thongsuk
Associate — Court Proceedings
Somsak manages all matters that have moved to the Thai courts. He prepares pleadings, coordinates with court administrators, and represents clients at hearings, briefing them in writing before each session.
Nattaya Wongcharoen
Legal Coordinator
Nattaya manages client communications, document coordination, and the preparation of beneficiary notification letters. She is the first point of contact for incoming enquiries and responds within one working day.

How We Conduct Our Practice
Thai Bar Qualification
All practising members of the firm hold current Thai Bar Association membership. This is verified annually and is a condition of continued practice in the jurisdiction.
Written Record-Keeping
Every decision point in a matter is recorded in writing and shared with the client. Files are maintained securely and are available to clients on request throughout the duration of a matter.
Client Confidentiality
Information shared with us in the course of a matter is treated as strictly confidential. We do not discuss client matters externally, and our data handling follows established professional obligations.
Informed Client Decisions
No meaningful step in a matter is taken without the client's written instruction. Options are explained fully, including those we do not recommend, so that decisions belong entirely to the client.
Civil and Commercial Code Expertise
Succession in Thailand is governed by Book VI of the Thai Civil and Commercial Code. Our practitioners have sustained familiarity with this framework and follow developments in Thai court practice.
Fee Transparency
Fees are agreed in writing before work begins. Disbursements specific to a matter — such as court filing fees — are disclosed separately and in advance, with no charges added without notice.
Succession Law in Thailand — What Families Need to Know
Inheritance in Thailand is primarily governed by the Civil and Commercial Code. When a person dies in Thailand, their estate passes according to the terms of any valid will, or — in the absence of a will — to statutory heirs in the order prescribed by law. The statutory order places spouses, children, parents, siblings, and more distant relatives at successive levels, with the share each receives depending on which classes of heirs survive.
For families with mixed nationalities, assets held across different countries, or real property in Thailand, the picture can become more involved. Thai courts have jurisdiction over assets located in Thailand, and proceedings must follow the rules and schedules of the Thai judicial system.
Families who come to rattanay Legal are often at an early stage of managing an estate — sometimes shortly after a bereavement, sometimes after a disagreement has arisen between family members. In either case, our role is to offer a clear picture of the legal position and a considered account of the options, so that decisions can be made in a calm and informed way.
